Calendars

ELA Support: you will find your work on the English calendar directly below.  Your work will be identified by the word "Support."

6th Grade English: you will find your work on the English calendar directly below.  Your work will be identified as "Classwork" and "Homework."  You should look at both of them to make sure you didn't miss anything because often times homework is finishing classwork.

Leadership: you will find your calendar at the bottom of this pages.  Additionally, your other resources are also on the bottom of this page.

Nightly Homework

Every night (Monday - Thursday) you will have some form of English homework. Please refer to the Google calendar below to see what your homework is for the night. On the occasion that no homework is posted in the google calendar, your homework is to read your independent reading book.

As part of the sixth grade English curriculum, all students are expected to read an independent reading book. Sixth graders will need to read for 20 minutes each night. Additionally, a project related to the independent reading will be due once a quarter.

The idea is that my 6th grade students will have approximately 20 minutes of homework each night. Please take this into account when I have assigned other work, as you may not read that night or you may read for a shorter amount of time.

How to Take Notes for Novels

When we are reading a novel, you will want to annotate (just like we did in our StudySyn workbooks), but we CANNOT annotate inside the books as they are not ours to keep.

You have two options: you can either use post-its  in the novel and post them where the annotate should be OR you can take notes in your notebook (be sure to label each chapter in your notebook)

Each chapter should include notes for:

- key events that happen

- characterization

- a question and/or prediction

- unknown vocabulary words with their definitions
